Into the Newsroom

Walt’s first assignment was a doozy. He was asked by Roy Roberts to cover the anti-trust hearings that would eventually lead to the Star selling WDAF. Walt describes the process of covering the trial. At that time, WDAF was owned by the Kansas City Star and its studio was on the third floor of the Star's building at 17th and Grand.

Covering Truman

Walt came on the scene locally not long after Harry hit the national scene. Over the years, Walt would have many opportunities to view the President close up both while in office and after leaving office.

In 1951, the Kansas and Missouri Rivers flooded, causing catastrophic damage throughout the region.
